Good point. There are a few differences. First, it seems like every has known the autos' problems where as Citi is a surprise. Second, people think that the auto money will go into a black hole - but there is some chance of recovering the investment in Citigroup.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('110','Campbell Harvey','Good point.
Citi seems to be badly run if they wanted to buy Wachovia and then at the last minute, after being outbid by Wells Fargo, dropped their bid.

Why is it that the auto companies were berated for "failing" and wanting $25 billion when Citi group is given that much plus billion's more in loan guarantees and hardly any mention of it? Why wasn`t their CEO made to go before Congress and get berated as the auto CEO's were unfairly made to do? They were taken to task for prior mistakes, for not making products people want (even though their new vehicles are award winners) and they needed tohave a viable plan for future growth. Where were these items for Citi group?? One rule for the "real" economy and one for the financial institutions.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('102','Guy Atherton','Citi seems to be badly run if they wanted to buy Wachovia and then at the last minute, after being outbid by Wells Fargo, dropped their bid.\r\n\r\nWhy is it that the auto companies were berated for \"failing\" and wanting $25 billion when Citi group is given that much plus billion\'s more in loan guarantees and hardly any mention of it?
How does one determine what the CDO's or MBS are worth? The first round of TARP was $350B. Is there a website which gives an itemized list of how this money was distributed between the various banks ?

the government forced the sale of Bear -stearns and Wachovia?

Why can't the government force the big 3 auto companies to merge and become two companies?<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('74','Vivek Ramaswami','How does one determine what the CDO\'s or MBS are worth?
